Welcome to The Arts Society Epsom

The Arts Society Epsom meets monthly (except in August) for lectures on a broad and diverse range of topics.  Founded in 1989 as Epsom Decorative and Fine Arts Society, our members have been sharing a curiosity for the Arts for 30 years.

Our lectures are given by experienced and highly qualified lecturers who are experts in their chosen field. A full description can be found in the 'Lectures' section.

To supplement the monthly lectures, Special Interest Days are arranged twice per year in which a subject is studied in greater depth. Further information is available in the 'Special Interest' section.

The Society also organizes visits to art galleries, museums and places of historic and artistic interest in the UK and tours to overseas cultural centres. Find out more in our 'Visits/Tours' section.

The 'Volunteering' section describes our regular activities of promoting Young Arts, Church Recording and Heritage Volunteering.

The Society is a member of The Arts Society that was founded in 1968 as the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies. The Arts Society works to advance decorative and fine arts education and appreciation, alongside promoting the preservation of artistic heritage. It is a UK-based charity and supports a network of over 360 local societies across the country. In addition, it supports a number of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies in mainland Europe and Australasia.

Next Monthly Lecture:

Wednesday 5th February 2020

Lecturer: Dr James Lindow

On the 500th anniversary of Raphael's death this lecture charts his meteoric rise to prominence.  His early work is analysed alongside his commissions in Florence for the Papacy in Rome which demonstrate the genius of this extraordinary artist.

Forthcoming Activities

Our first visit to Cutlers' Hall on Wednesday 12th February quickly sold out at our lecture on 8th January, but there will be opportunity for another 30 members to visit this famous Livery Hall in September.  This second visit will be advertised later in the year, with tickets on sale on 1st July.

Our second visit of the year will be to Whitchurch Silk Mill and the Bombay Sapphire Distillery on Tuesday 17th March. Full details will be circulated towards the end of January and will be on first sale to members from 09.30 am on the morning of our next lecture on Wednesday 5th February.

Details of our Spring Special Interest Day, that will be held at Epsom College on Wednesday 15th April, will similarly be issued to members later in January, and will be on sale at our next lecture on Wednesday 5th February.
